I call it insomnia, but it's really not...it's more that our sleep cycles are off (you and I are nightowls!). See your doc. What also helps me is setting a standard bed-time, and forcing myself to lie down in the dark and shut my eyes. Even though I may not fall asleep for a couple hours, I fall asleep a lot sooner than I would if I were up and still doing stuff.

I used to take over-the-counter stuff (Tylenol PM by the handful). If you're getting to the point where you need 6 or 7 to fall asleep, call your doc and see if they'll prescribe you something better.

I use 3mg of Melatonin and it helps a lot!

I'm an extreme night owl (plus, I work until 11pm) so I've been through this a lot. It does seem to go in phases and sometimes I'm fine, but then other times I go through like what you're describing.

Melatonin might work so it's worth a try if you're really desperate. I don't like to take sleeping pills because they really knock me out and I'm still groggy the next day.

Just fyi from the therapist in the group ;) sleep problems can also be a sign of depression... That is something else that woudl be good to discuss with a doc as you don't want to get hooked on sleeping pills! ;)

Stress is usually to blame when I can't get to sleep until the wee hours of the morning. Sleep is important. I agree with others, talk to your doctor about it. Haven't you mentioned having a cpap in the past? Are you using it?

I'd be wary of any doctor (especially if I had pre-existing sleep conditions) prescribing pills as a "cure" without wanting to look into the issue more deeply, however.

If you don't think this is a serious issue, perhaps just try doing things that usually make you sleepy and for God's sake, AVOID TV and the computer when you're wanting to go to sleep. It just excites your brain, making it harder.

I have to concur on the Melatonin. I just recently started taking it and it helps me a lot!

Good luck!
